This is a personal reflection on what I found to be the best way to quit smoking

Have you ever read the health warnings on the outside of your cigarette packet? Smoking can cause lethal lung cancer. Smoking causes emphysema. Smoking while pregnant causes birth defects. Do they have any effect on you? Do you still light up then? In my search for the best way to quit smoking, sadly, I always did this. I knew what’s wrong and what’s right, but I couldn’t get myself to quit.

Here is some information for you: Roughly 33% of all adult males worldwide continue to light up cigarettes, despite the health warnings given on cigarette packets. There are approximately 15 billion cigarettes sold every day – that’s 10 million cigarettes sold a minute. Based on a survey conducted by the American Lung Cancer Association, approximately 437,800 American citizens (per year) have contracted smoking-related diseases. The cost of health-care in the United States alone is now over $167 billion a year. Yet we do not stop smoking.

Why don’t these rather frightening statistics make us quit smoking? Are we as blind or ignorant to those warning labels? Do we quietly believe we can live for ever? Or do we realize the danger but just don’t care?

The Best Way To Quit Smoking-What Worked For Me

I was once a heavy smoker. Whenever people told me to quit smoking, I sometimes smoked even more. Deep inside my heart, I know I have to quit smoking, but I could not do it. No matter how many times I tried, something always pulled me back and I kept smoking, but then something wonderful happened. Yes – I found the best way to quit smoking.

I finally managed to quit – for good. It’s been five long years now, and during those hard times I’ve been through, I have finally found the best way to quit smoking, and I learned one important thing that changed me from a heavy-duty smoker to a completely smoke-free person. Do you want to know what that one ultimate factor is?

That factor is our subconscious mind. You heard me right. It is the sheer power of our subconscious mind that’s been preventing us from stopping, ever. At this point you may be thinking this is just some oddball mumbo jumbo, let me assure you that what I have to tell you is based on legitimate scientific research known as psychotherapy. A powerful change management tool that transforms the way people think and act. The best way to quit smoking has medical and psychological credentials.

What is our subconscious mind?

Our subconscious mind is the most influential mind, which manages plenty of reflexive functions of our mind, in lots of ways we have yet understood.

This subconscious mind is what protects us, keeps us functioning as a human being. Our subconscious mind always looks for fixed patterns and instinctive responses. Think of times when you laugh, ride a bicycle, when you brush your teeth. These repetitive tasks have been programmed into our subconscious; they have become automatic for us to do.

How do we form our subconscious mind?

Our subconscious mind assigns us a role based on our established habits. It is designed to set aside repeated patterns. Apart from automatic protection and safety patterns, our subconscious also learns to identify, learn, and reserve pleasure patterns.

This is why our subconscious mind prevents us from stopping smoking and also why altering our subconscious mind is the best way to quit smoking. If you have programmed your subconscious to believe that you enjoy smoking, you can’t live without a cigarette, you need to light up, then it will do its job and will constantly remind you to light up. All this time you’ve been searching for the best way to quit smoking, yet even when your conscious mind tells you that you need to quit, the power of your subconscious is even greater, and that’s why you just can’t kick the habit.

Your Subconscious Mind Is The Best Way To Quit Smoking

You just have to re-program it. Think of it as an OS (Operating System) of your mind. You have to “uninstall” it and reinforce new beliefs and habits into your subconscious mind. Still, how do you exactly re-program your subconscious mind?

Well, there’s a popular method called NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) which is able to change what your subconscious mind believes. Basically, NLP is just an approach to psychotherapy (although rather controversial) claimed to be able to change one’s mental and emotional behavior patterns.

How can NLP help you quit smoking? Well, the premise behind NLP is that if you can change how your subconscious works, you can change your habit. If you can change your habit, you can also reverse the way your subconscious feels about smoking, and you can (eventually) stop smoking.

In the end, I personally think that changing how our mind works is the best way to quit smoking. But then I had tried everything else. If you are unsure about using Neuro-Linguistic Programming to quit smoking then here are some other alternatives.

Over time smoking becomes more than just an addiction to nicotine. It becomes a characteristic of your personality. When people think of you, images of smoke and cigarettes come to their mind.

The best way to quit smoking may end up being an individual one, what works for one may not work for another. If you ready to stop smoking, then here are some methods that have proven successful for some.

Plan a date for quitting and make preparations. Consult with your physician and take precautions. Start gradually reducing the number of times you smoke to at least a fourth by that date and then stop completely. Giving up smoking takes different lengths of time to get used to for each person. But regardless of the difficulties, stick with the target. For some, this will be the best way to quit smoking.Start reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke per day. Do this once a week so that it doesn’t come as a shock. Lets say you smoke 4 cigarettes a day, next week it should be 3. Eventually, reduce it to 1 per 2 days and so on until you can stay away from them throughout the week and smoke 1 or 2 on Sunday. This is a big reduction and a good platform from which to stop completely. Many consider this to be the best way to quit smoking, slow withdrawal.

There are substitutes to cigarettes which work just as well, like nicotine patches and gums. Although they do not cure nicotine craving, they can help to quit the habit of smoking. You should not take these without proper guidance and prescription of qualified experts though. This is one of the best ways to quit smoking.

Physical activity is an integral part of any method to cure addictions. Walking, swimming, dancing and outdoor activities help improve blood circulation and stimulate the effect nicotine has on the body’s metabolism. Breathing exercises and yoga have been known to reduce the stress and anxiety developed due to withdrawal symptoms.Exercise will also take your mind off the fact that it wants a smoke.

The best way to quit smoking is something we each need to find for ourselves -GOOD LUCK!

One of the most important things when trying to quit smoking is to eliminate the physical craving for nicotine. I won’t claim that by eliminating the craving for nicotine you solved all your smoking issues, but it’s a known fact that this factor is crucial when trying to quit smoking.Although there are countless products that can inhibit the nicotine craving I want to talk about my favorite one: homeopathic solution, all natural and it does much more then “just” stopping the craving, it also dramatically reduces countless withdrawal symptoms like: nausea, aches, cold sweats, insomnia and much more. A nice bonus is that you can try it for free and see for yourself how it works, check it out here. When you ask yourself about how to quit smoking you can go ahead and just “do it”, or you can approach it academically, which means read about it for the end of days, and do nothing. Anyway for those of you who like and prefer to read over doing (which I honestly don’t recommend), here is some academic info: You’ve heard of laser vision treatment; you’ve heard of laser unwanted hair removal treatment; you’ve even heard of laser hair re-growth treatment. But have you heard of laser stop smoking treatment? There are many smokers who keep their proverbial ear to the ground all the time, hoping to hear about a really effective treatment to quit smoking. It is natural that smokers do this because over 70% of all current smokers are known to want to quit smoking. Just one such treatment has been raised in the press and on TV in recent times and that approach is to use is laser surgery to quit smoking.Wanted to talk about in this article about how to use hypnosis to a product approach, and a Stop Smoking Hypnosis Richard MacKenzie. Hypnotherapy is quite different from hypnosis may have seen the show. Nobody is going to take control of your mind and start making stupid things. Acupuncture Acupuncture as an ancient Chinese medical methods to, the small needles into different parts of the body it helps to cope with various diseases and pain, including that of a person is treated. Acupuncture may reduce appetite, and withdrawal symptoms as a person might use. In this case relaxing meditation, guided imagery and deep smoke them a better sense of well being and inner peace will use the breathing exercises. Other people have successfully used yoga to go. I think the theory behind this is that yoga helps you relax and drain all the tension or stress you may be suffering. If you are concerned whether it will be able to stop or not, some yoga classes can be useful. 2) Hypnotherapy: This is a moderately effective way to quit smoking. This process tries to lead patients to believe they have the will to quit. There are so many drugs than smoking. This includes patches, gum, lozenges, hypnosis, acupuncture, and even anti-depressant, Zyban. Hypnotherapy hypnotherapy sessions include technical arguments and positive suggestions. Finally you can refer to a CD or MP3, so you can continue to enhance its recommendations at a later date. Hypnotherapy to stop smoking sessions tend to last 60-90 minutes and generally less expensive than $ 200. Number 2 on our list of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking is rural. 7th On opening, to waive all his house and car ashtrays, cigarettes and lighters. 8th Imagine your body and healing will take longer, deeper breaths. 9th After leaving play in physical activity you enjoy. Remain as active as possible. Too much smoking has negative effects on smokers. A heavy smoker may increase his risk of getting lung cancer. Even light smokers are at risk of getting cancer of the tongue or mouth. Attention is usually focused on children, but research suggests that everyone, from babies to elderly people more susceptible to disease, if spending time in the company of smokers. In fact-finding, both in Spain and Italy showed that tobacco smoke is 20 times more toxic than the exhaust! children live with parents who are smokers are more likely to suffer from asthma and ear infections and if it has been suffering from asthma, smoking can cause an attack. Another output is the cough, headache and nausea. Other long-term effects including heart problems as possible. The most important thing, instead of smoking a support system is that it tries to quit smoking. Symptoms of this system should include a variety of remedies will be. Read more about quitting smoking cravings, or find more the Ways to Stop Smoking article. This is necessary if you’re facing the consequences that may arise when you stop smoking.
Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things you will ever do. Luckily, there are many tools to assist you in your goal of quitting smoking. Acupuncture is one of the most helpful tools and is very effective in helping break the addiction cycle.Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into certain points on the body. These needles stimulate the flow of qi (chee) energy throughout the body, helping to regulate the body’s natural systems. Many people are afraid of needles but acupuncture needles are extremely thin–usually the thickness of a strand of hair–and the insertion is barely noticed. The needles are inserted very superficially in the skin and retained in the body while the patient rests. Acupuncture works by helping to regulate the body’s natural energy flow, to reduce the cravings of nicotine withdrawal, to calm the mind and ease anxieties, and to strengthen and benefit the lungs and clear phlegm, tar and nicotine residue out of the lungs.Often people smoke to deal with stuck energy in the body that shows itself as feelings of anxiety, tension, anger or grief. Smoking a cigarette draws warm air deeply into the lungs and the nicotine hits our blood stream, then works its way into our brain allowing us to momentarily feel relaxation and release from these emotions.

Using Acupuncture To Quit Smoking – Release The Energy

Acupuncture helps by regulating this stuck energy and moving it along in the same way that deep breaths or a few moments of quiet meditation will do. Smoking allows us to feel relaxed quickly, but this is a false benefit as the side effects of smoking are more detrimental then the feelings of anxiety we endure. It is understood in Chinese medicine that the emotion related to the lungs is grief. This heavy, sad, stuck energy of grief is alleviated by the movement of the lungs as we take a drag off a cigarette. It is important to find other ways to move this stuck qi. You can start by noticing and observing what you are really feeling when you have a craving for a cigarette. Are you actually sad or stressed out? Spend some time analyzing what the root of the emotion is.Acupuncture, particularly ear or ‘auricular acupuncture’, will help reduce the cravings for nicotine by stimulating receptors in our brains that nicotine usually binds to and create a break from the cravings. Ear acupuncture can be done by any acupuncturist or you can buy ‘ear seeds’ which are little morning glory seeds on medical tape which are stuck on particular points on the ear. You can research auricular acupuncture charts online or see if your community offers an addiction clinic. These clinics are often free and offer a short acupuncture session or the application of ear seeds to deal with a variety of addictions. One of the most powerful benefits of an acupuncture session is the way it calms your mind and eases anxiety. People often smoke to mask feelings they don’t wish to feel or face. Acupuncture helps to safely move these feelings out of the body. People comment that they have more restful sleep, fall asleep easier and sleep longer after acupuncture. Finally, acupuncture helps to physically remove tar and nicotine residue from the body. This allows the lungs to feel lighter, the voice less gravely, helps stop coughing and improves digestion. There are helpful herbal formulas that your acupuncturist can prescribe for helping heal the lungs and refrain from smoking. One formula that all smokers, ex-smokers and those working on quitting should take is called ‘Yang Yin Qing Fei’. This formula is a perfect balance of herbs to clear out the lungs and stop coughing while moistening the dryness of the lungs and sore throats that many smokers experience.Ultimately the true, heart felt desire to quit smoking is the most important predictor in successfully quitting.

Recognize Your Addiction

Like other addictions, the first step is to admit you have a problem that you wish to change and then take one day at a time. I often ask my patients why they wish to quit smoking. This may seem like a silly question but if the patient responds that they truly wish to make a change in their life and quit this habit, the results are far better than someone who replies that they wish to quit smoking because their ‘wife wants them to’. Or because their ‘doctor told them to quit’. Or because smoking is ‘too expensive’. These are all good reasons to stop smoking but ultimately it comes back to the patient’s personal desire for change in their life. This personal desire to improve their health and quit the habit is a powerful force that is already moving the patient in the direction that they wish to go. Ask yourself why you want to quit. Maybe even make a list of the reasons and post it where you will see it. Remind yourself daily why you are making this choice. All the acupuncture, nicotine gum and hypnosis treatments in the world will not help you quit smoking unless you have truly decided and reconciled yourself to this decision. Even if you have truly dedicated yourself to stopping smoking you may have the occasional ‘slip up’ where you smoke again. Be gentle with yourself; this is a process that will take some time. Think of yourself as a ‘practicing non-smoker’ rather than thinking you will quit cold turkey and never smoke again. Avoid having unreasonable expectations of yourself. Some studies have shown that people desire a cigarette even 25 years after smoking! Rather than feel that quitting is impossible, consider cutting back and slowly changing your life and patterns so that one day smoking no longer fits into your life or image of yourself. Addictions occur because of an evolutionary feedback loop for survival. When humans have a pleasant experience our brains record this positive feedback and send us looking for more of this pleasant experience. People who are addicted to smoking do not have weaker self control than other people; in fact, they may have a more strongly functioning memory feedback loop. Acupuncture can help stop this addictive feedback cycle and help you to create a new, positive sensory feedback cycle for your brain.Best wishes for a smoke-free life!

Trying to quit smoking may almost seem like you are walking into a burning fire, an impossible task, but read on because nicotine replacement therapy has worked successfully for many people. It certainly is not simple, and with the attitudes that many people have, you are looking at a lot of complicated issues trying to ensure that you get started on the right foot to quit smoking for good. To help avoid many of the complicated side effects that you could experience, you have the option of looking into nicotine replacement therapy. These typically come in two different forms and the type that is best for you is something that you will need to decide. It is a good idea to consider both options though, because they both have their benefits and ultimately you just want to quit smoking.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy – Not Just Gum

The first is the traditional nicotine gum. This comes in a variety of flavors as well as dosage amounts. This form of nicotine replacement therapy is best suited for to those smokers who find it extremely comforting to do something with their mouth whenever they have the urge to smoke. By actively chewing the gum, you are getting a small dosage of nicotine whenever you have an urge, plus you are able to keep your mouth occupied. This can also be used in connection with cutting back your smoking without causing any bad complications.

It is important to realize that you can control how often you need to use the gum. If you are typically a one pack a day smoker, and are trying to cut out half of the cigarettes each day you may only need to use the gum 5 times one day and 7 times the next. You have this flexibility because you can use it only as you actually need it. This type of flexibility is great for those who are trying to go slowly in their quest to quit, as well as those who like to keep their mouth occupied as the urge to smoke comes. In addition, the range of flavors makes it easy to find something that almost anyone will enjoy.

Patches – The Passive Nicotine Replacement Therapy

The second option to consider is the traditional nicotine patch. These are typically distributed in dosages and are applied in the mornings and worn all day. By doing this, you are able to absorb small amounts of nicotine all day long. This is great for those who are attempting to quit cold turkey; however, you cannot smoke or use nicotine gum anytime you have a severe urge to smoke. This limitation forces smokers to look for alternative ways to help curb any additional urges that appear. Additionally, because the patch is applied every morning, and removed at night, it can severely limit the flexibility to slowly decrease nicotine consumption.

The patch is available in a range of dosages though, which can allow you to slowly step down, but in general you have more flexibility to adjust the range of nicotine in your body with the gum since each piece contains only a small amount of nicotine. If you would rather do just a single thing to help you curb nicotine addiction you may find that the patch is your best friend. Smokers who have extremely busy lifestyles often find them quite effective. It is extremely important to ensure you start with the appropriate patch to start with though. Many smokers make the mistake of selecting the wrong dosage, which can actually heighten the addiction to nicotine, rather than helping to decrease it.

Using quit smoking hypnosis can make the process of quitting easier. It works like this.

We have two parts of the mind; the conscious and subconscious.
The conscious part of the mind thinks it is in control of everything. However, if it were we would all probably be dead because we would have forgotten to keep our lungs working, our hearts beating and our cells dividing! So you see..the SUBCONSCIOUS really does a lot of work and play a big part in our behaviour.
A habit begins in the conscious part of the mind and much like anything you do for the very first time; you have to “think” about it. Then you do it a few more times and before you know it, it becomes automatic and it’s at this point that it has shifted from your conscious mind into your subconscious mind – your control panel if you like.

Now the prime directive of the subconscious mind is to protect you and usually people start smoking to avoid a negative feeling. So, because your subconscious mind wants to protect you, it has kept you using cigarettes because it thinks that the cigarettes are the protector from the negative feelings.
Little does the subconscious know that the cigarettes are actually killing you slowly!

With the powerful combination of neuro linguistic programming and quit smoking hypnosis, hypnotherapists can tap into this part of the mind that has you using cigarettes for what it thought was protection, and switch it around so that it now thinks it is protecting you by being a non-smoker.

Here are some facts:
Only 7% of smokers quit through willpower
, 10% quit through use of gum
, 16% quit through the use of nicotine patches. Not very high statistics are they? Which means that 84-93% of people fail to quit.
This is because you are not addicted to nicotine, so there is no point giving you more nicotine, even if it is getting to you in another form.
None of these techniques are effective because they do not address the source of the problem.Stop Smoking

The benefit of using a combined system of hypnosis or hypnotheray and neuro linguistic programming to quit smoking is that it deals with all of your unique reasons. It deals with all your specific reasons for quitting and why you haven’t quit in the past or what stopped you from remaining a non-smoker. You won’t find the need to find substitutes such as eating more unhealthy snacks. It will not feel like you are using your will power, it won’t feel like you are giving something up. The system uses your unconscious mind to come up with healthy alternatives to smoking cigarettes to avoid the common reasons why you might have failed in the past.

The old myths and misconceptions about quit smoking hypnosis have given way to proven, scientifically sound applications. Today the use of hypnosis is seen in medicine, dentistry, law enforcement, professional sports, and education. Combining this with NLP, destroys myths, and gets rid of habits just to name a few.

Quit Smoking Hypnosis And Our Brains

Our minds work on two levels – the conscious and the unconscious. We make decisions, think, and act with our conscious mind. The unconscious mind controls our habits. In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind. This is why it is so quick and easy to change habits of a lifetime with quit smoking hypnosis.

Everyone with an average IQ can be successful in using ta quit smoking hypnosis system. Any good hypnosis program should be custom tailored to your individual needs, and thus should work for almost anyone.

Quit smoking hypnosis is safe, you are aware and in control at every moment and can terminate a session at any time. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis. You can’t be made to do something against your will! Hypnosis is a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable experience.

To make the most of your hypnosis session, you need to ensure that you want to quit smoking permanently. Many people are forced to quit for reasons that lack internal belief. When using hypnosis to quit smoking cigarettes naturally, the therapist is working on the patient’s mind. This is why it is important that no mental barriers or filters exist, potentially sabotaging the treatment. You must be a willing participant, as hypnosis cannot get you to do something you do not want to do. You must also accept all the suggestions that the therapist is giving you. A good therapist will inform you how to listen during the session and ways of listening to be aware of and avoid.

Quit Smoking Hypnosis Is Highly Effective

Hypnosis is highly effective at helping you quit cigarettes because your reasons for smoking cigarettes are different then other people’s reasons. The areas you need help in are different than your friends. Most Hypnotherapists custom tailor a session to you and address your specific needs so you become a non-smoker with ease.

Why don’t you take the money you would have
spent on cigarettes anyway, and invest it in
becoming a non-smoker for life. Imagine giving up a lifetime of poisoning your lungs in as little as an hour with no painful injections, no gums or pills to chew or swallow and most important of all, successful cessation of your smoking habit. Quit smoking hypnosis may be the answer for you.

Passive smoking is also known as secondhand smoking, involuntary smoking, and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke – or ETS. Eighty-five percent of ETS is made up of sidestream smoke – the smoke that is exhaled by a smoker or released from the burning tip of a cigarette or any tobacco product. This toxic smoke contains fine molecules and gases, more than 4,000 chemicals, many of them are dangerous, at least 60 of them are known and can cause cancer. Passive smoking is most frequent in public places, and can also be observed in some private residences. Bars and restaurants are the most common places where one can experience passive smoking. Many individuals are also exposed to immense passive smoke in their own apartments or at the homes of friends and family. Smoke lingers in the air for longer, particularly in enclosed rooms when a person keeps smoking for long. Children, particularly toddlers and infants, are at a higher risk from tobacco smoke because their bodies are still in a period of development. Exposure to these carcinogens can lead to severe respiratory disease that can mark them for life or disturb the standard growth of the lungs. Passive smokers are potentially at risk of serious illness such as heart related diseases, cancer, ear infections and respiratory problems. Passive smoking has also been found to be responsible for lower birth weights and a significant cause of infant deaths in third world countries where smoking rates are still very high.

Passive Smoking Is Bad For Your Health

Recent studies have indicated that around one million smokers are found suffering from asthma, which is primarily caused by passive smoking.Passive smokers are susceptible to a number of frightening effects. As one would expect, bronchial tubes of a child are relatively smaller and immune system is less developed making them more vulnerable to a host of illnesses and disorders. As their airways are smaller, kids take shorter and faster breaths than adults and as a result they actually breathe in more harmful particles while breathing. Exposures to smoke of tobacco can even double the risk of children contracting disorders and diseases like pneumonia and bronchitis calling for the need of hospitalization for these illnesses. It has been proven that second hand smoke which is generated by the exhalation of the smoker and by the smoke rising from the smoldering end of the cigarette has adverse effects on the human physiology. Some of the long term effects of passive smoking are listed below:-Second hand smoke has been proven as a carcinogenic substance.
-Research has shown a significant increase in the relative risk of lung cancer in people who are exposed to second hand smoke.
-Passive smoking increases the risk of breast cancer among younger, premenopausal women by seventy percent.
-Children are at a higher risk of developing brain tumor in their lifetime due to a sustained exposure to passive smoking. Even if the mother does not smoke, her exposure to second hand smoke during pregnancies increases the chances of her babies developing brain tumor at some point in their lifetime. The adverse effects of second hand smoke have been researched and complied for many years. The effects are life threatening, serious and debilitating. It is a proven fact that it is next to impossible to avert passive smoking completely, but it is definitely in your best interest to avoid it as much as possible. Pregnant women and children are at a higher risk and they should take every step possible to ensure that they are protected from the effects of second hand smoke.

Passive Smoking – Even 30 Minutes Is Too Much

A sizeable number of non-smokers complain of headache, eye irritation, nasal congestion, sneezing, sore throat, cough, and other respiratory tract infections upon exposure to sidestream smoke or ETS. In almost all cases, eye irritation was observed to be the main symptom upon exposure to cigarette smoke.People with allergies may experience the following: watery or irritated eyes, itchy or runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, coughing, a suffocating feeling, and other typical allergy symptoms just minutes of getting exposed. Some with no record of allergies or asthma may suddenly cough in smoke-filled quarters. Others get headaches, feel nauseas, sleepy, and experience other ill effects, when in the absence of smoke they would not exhibit these symptoms. It can also induce cravings for those who are in the process of quitting smoking. In persons with asthma, an attack can be induced or the current condition exacerbated by being exposed to ETS, or faster with sidestream smoke. Just a thirty minute exposure to tobacco smoke can reduce coronary blood flow. The short-term effects may cease when exposure ends. But repeated short-term and prolonged exposure to passive smoking may cause serious long-term effects.

In order to really quit smoking it is necessary to break the chains that smoking creates in your life. If you are addicted to smoking purely due to the nicotine addiction you are certainly not alone. This is one of the biggest reasons why smokers continue to smoke. It is also one of the reasons why the tobacco company sits around confidently while the economy struggles and people are cutting back. If you are addicted to their product, you are not going to cut back. In fact, if you are addicted you may find that you are using the product even more. This creates huge profits for the tobacco companies, and leaves you with a huge problem as you are struggling to get your addiction under control.

What is really surprising is the fact that people will have sympathy for someone who is addicted to drugs, alcohol, gambling and a plethora of other addictions. However, the sympathy tends to stop at the idea of being addicted to cigarettes. This is a stigma that has affected society in a way that people are often laughed at for saying that they are addicted to cigarettes. Yet, the fact remains that people are in fact addicted. Learning how to control the addiction is critical to success, after all those who are addicted to drugs rarely ever just quit cold turkey successfully.

You need to realize that you are addicted to smoking, and that the reason is typically due to nicotine. The exact manner that you get the nicotine is not important. What is important is avoiding the harmful effects on your body that smoking has. If you need to slowly cut back your nicotine consumption you are not alone, and to prove it there are dozens of stop smoking aids on the market. Several even offer small dosages of nicotine to help smokers deal with their nicotine addiction while still working to quit smoking. Looking towards products such as nicotine gum or even the patches may be your only help in quitting.

While there are plenty of tricks such as breathing exercises, magnets, and other stop smoking aids that you can use, many are not designed for people actually addicted to the nicotine. What you may not realize is that the bulk majority of smokers have become dependent on the nicotine to one extent or another. While some smokers rely much more on the nicotine than others, they are still addicted to an extent. It is important to break this dependence in order to actually be successful at quitting smoking. This is not an easy process, and it must be done carefully.

If you are not careful in the process of breaking your nicotine addiction, you could actually make things worse. For example, the nicotine gum and the patches come in different dosage levels. These levels coincide to the amount that you smoke. The intended purpose is to start at the level that you typically smoke at and slowly decrease the amount of nicotine that you consume each day. Slowly over time your addiction would be gone, however to crush this instantly you would just need to use a stronger gum or patch than you need for your smoking habit. A one pack a day smoker could create far more problems for themselves if they used the gum or patch intended for those who smoke two packs a day for example.

Being sure that you are using the proper dosages is critical. Ensuring that you are taking your time and carefully dealing with your nicotine addiction is very important as well. If you have the support of your friends, family and co-workers, you will have a much greater success rate. Just as those recovering drug addicts take things a single day at a time, you need to do the same for your nicotine addiction. Simply rushing out and attempting to quit could create a huge self-esteem problem and you fail to control the addiction to nicotine. Going slow and accepting your problem will set you up for a much higher success rate and improve your overall health much faster.

With so many quit smoking tips and suggestions on how to stop smoking, it is really easy to see why so many people really do not quit. The vast majority of smokers are completely confused by the entire process! What of the conflicting messages passed around? The fact is that with so much information passed around people get confused and it is often much easier to just continue smoking and hope for a simple solution. Actually taking the necessary steps to really quit smoking is not easy. It means coming to terms with the fact that stopping smoking really is best for you, as well as your health.

Most people are readily aware that stopping smoking can improve their health, but learning how to really conquer the urges to smoke is not easy. With so many temptations circulating around, as well as the stresses of daily life it is easy to see why jumping into a pack of cigarettes seems like a good idea.

10 Quit Smoking Tips

Tip #1 You need a good reason to quit. Simply deciding to quit because the sky is blue is not a sufficient reason. The need to quit smoking is obvious, but the desire to quit needs to come from inside in order for the process to be successful. Of all the quit smoking tips this is one of the most important. You MUST want to QUIT!

Tip #2 Look for small rewards that you can give yourself as you make progress. You are not likely to just quit cold turkey with no complications. Set up small rewards that will help you to want to make progress towards ultimately quitting. This can be a great motivation to keep you on target.

Tip #3 Plan out your quitting strategy. Decide how you want to try to quit and stick to it. Set a specific amount of time for your plan. If after a time, say six weeks you have not quit, work on a new plan. This will allow ample time to try each method, while still giving yourself flexibility to try something else.

Tip #4 Work to overcome your struggles. If you are smoking due to stressful things in your life, you need to deal with the stress before you can successfully quit. Regardless of the reason why you are smoking, it needs to be dealt with in able to quit for good. Another one of those significant quit smoking tips. Aim to relieve stress.

Tip #5 Set up a punishment for yourself. For example, if you generally stop at Starbucks each day for a coffee you might consider skipping that on days when you have fallen short of your goals for smoking. Whatever punishment you select, make sure it is something that you care about.

Tip #6 Seek out help from your friends and family. You need support as you are trying to quit, and this will help you to ensure that you are not alone in the entire process.

Tip #7 Look for someone to quit with you. If you are entirely on your own, you are going to be much more likely to slip back into smoking. If someone is working with you and holding you accountable, you are more likely to struggle to succeed. Working to quit smoking is not easy, but hard tasks are much easier to accomplish with a partner. Share your quit smoking tips with a friend.

Tip #8 Ensure you are getting plenty of sleep. The job of quitting smoking is quite difficult. If you are not getting the rest you need, you are much more likely to be cranky, upset and angry with the world. This is very counterproductive to your goal of quitting smoking for good.

Tip #9 Aim to quit for good. This might seem a bit strange, but if you are just planning to quit for a weekend you are not going to put much effort into the process. If you are planning to quit for good, a lot more time and effort is going to go into the process as well as your plan to quit.

Tip #10 Look for ways to take your mind off cigarettes. If you are always thinking about cigarettes, you may find that you are much more tempted to smoke. Reading a book, exercising, talking on the phone, surfing the internet and even cooking are all great ways to occupy your mind and keep from thinking about when your last cigarette was.

Quit Smoking Tips – More Than Just Words

These quit smoking tips may seem like just common sense, but really if you took any notice of common sense you wouldn’t be smoking. So take them to heart, gather some discipline and DO IT!
